The Project
Published in 2011 by Musikstrasse, this 24-CD box set contains over 500 musical pieces composed in concentration camps between 1933 and 1945. Works include symphonies, chamber music, lieder, choral music, cabaret, jazz, traditional and folk music… A variety of genres performed by contemporary musicians under the direction of Italian pianist, composer and musicologist Francesco Lotoro.

The Box Set
These pieces were written between 1933 and 1945 by Jews, rom, homosexuals, political dissidents, people with disabilities, and others who were deported, killed or survived the extermination camps. The result of 22 years of musicological research, this encyclopedia, directed by Francesco Lotoro and produced by the Musikstrasse label, is a global reference for music composed during the Shoah. Each of the 24 CDs includes a booklet in English and Italian with biographies of the composers, photos, notes on the works, names of the camps where the music was composed, and original lyrics for sung pieces.

Francesco Lotoro
